Genotypic brings Israeli Smart pooling solution to India to ramp-up COVID19 screening

Bangalore, 12 Sept 2020: In contrast to the double-step pooling method (Dorfman pooling method) used worldwide, the LessTests method identifies the infected sample in a pool without the need to test individual samples, said Bangalore-based Genotypic Technologies that is partnering with the Israeli company to bring it to India. It could provide accurate and quick test results at low cost for screening and diagnosing COVID-19.
“Using this technology, Indian labs can scaleup from the current 1 million tests per day to up to 5 million tests per day, with limited capital expenditure. The cost of screening can be reduced by up to 10 times and diagnostics by up to 3 times. The smart pool method will also reduce the overall time for reporting by 10 times,” claimed the company in a press statement.
"We have been able to rapidly scale up testing for COVID-19 in Israel and are eager to support India's efforts to battle COVID 19. We believe that large-scale testing can significantly reduce the infection spread and flatten the curve much faster, at a significantly lower cost." said Ms Ruth Polachek, CEO, LessTests.
Added Dr. Raja Mugasimangalam, Founder and CEO, Genotypic Technology: “There is an urgent need to rapidly and reliably screen populations for COVID 19, beyond those who demonstrate symptoms. This wide-scale screening and testing will help flatten the curve and enable a return to normalcy.”
Genotypic has been working with several technology companies to provide SARS-CoV-2 sequencing solutions to more than 1,400 Indian COVID testing Labs.
“ We are very pleased to work closely with LessTests to achieve this objective,” said Dr Mugasimangalam, an executive council member of ABLE. “LessTests’ single-step pooled testing solution is the first-of-its-kind to be accredited and approved by the Israeli Ministry of Health and the Israeli COVID-19 task force. With the number of people infected by SARS-CoV-2 sky-rocketing every day, there is an urgent need to rapidly and reliably screen populations for COVID 19.”
The new testing method is powered by advanced mathematical algorithms, the Smart 1-Step pooling technology can increase the number of tests performed at significantly reduced costs,, as explained in the diagram below.
LessTests’ Single-Step Pooling can identify the samples immediately unlike Double-Step Pooling that needs additional testing
LessTests’ single-step pooled testing solution is the first-of-its-kind to be accredited and approved by the Israeli Ministry of Health and the Israeli COVID-19 task force. It is currently being deployed across Israel for mass screening and testing for COVID 19. This is currently the only solution with high-efficiency for both lower prevalence screening and at 15% and higher prevalence for diagnostic applications.
The Smart one-step pooling technology, using an advanced mathematic algorithm, developed by Tel Aviv-based Less Tests could significantly reduce costs and increase number of tests being done daily
